Ari Folman’s Oscar-nominated film exploring the 1982 war between Israel and Lebanon represents a huge leap forward for documentary film-making. Stunningly animated using a new technique developed in Israel (often confused with rotoscoping), the film presents a dreamlike narrative as Ari Folman (a 19-year-old infantry soldier at the time) tries to piece together his own memories of what actually happened. Interviews with old friends and journalists reveal the fragility of memory and the power of the mind to hide the truth away.
A truly remarkable film - provocative, poignant and funny (in places) - Waltz With Bashir is personal filmmaking at its best and unlike any film you will have seen before.

This remake of Scarface is a modern morality tale that has been updated to 1980, from Howard Hawks’ film-noir classic of 1932, which focused on the prohibition period of illegal alcohol . Brian De Palma’s update sees Tony Montana as a Cuban gangster, who is thrown out of Cuba by Castro moves to Florida.
After attaching himself to the right sort of Godfather, Tony rises through a world of conspicuous consumption as a drugs trafficker. This film version doesn’t glamorise the criminals as Hawks’ film does. Al Pacino’s character never seems to really enjoy his riches, and eventually gets hooked on his own goods.
He is violently jealous of his sister Gina’s boyfriend Manny and his incestuous desires for his sister are far more blatant. Gina is played by Mary Mastrantonio who gives a tremendous performance as another tragic character, lured by the luxuries of a get rich quick lifestyle, with disastrous consequences.
